Promoting Xhosa and English at the foundation phase level, the organisation assists learners with non-permanent, serious learning barriers and disabilities. The aim of this programme is to bring about positive self-esteem in the child’s life. The organisation identified a need within the community among children who experience a lack of self-expression in the Xhosa and English languages and started this programme. Currently, the programme is being piloted in Motherwell N.U. 7 at Khulile Primary School. A Xhosa-speaking child is not exposed to the English language from an early age; English is introduced to them in Grade 4 in our township primary schools. The project aims to facilitate early exposure to the language so that children are better able to express themselves in another language.
