We’re a brand-new initiative and have developed an app that lets parents and caregivers download a library of over 50 books in their home language. Most homes in Africa have no books, yet the first 60 months of a child’s life matter more for personal development than the next 60 years.
We’ve been piloting the app in three early childhood development (ECD) centres in the Western Cape, and an incredible 40% of parents downloaded it. But here’s the thing: very few are reading regularly.
We’re looking for support, partnerships and funding to help us educate parents about how critical early reading is, and to boost app downloads and usage.
